Thinking we're going to stay an extra day

Didn't sleep well the night before, so I had to have a morning nap instead of an afternoon nap! Only problem with that is that you kind of waste away the cooler morning, and by the time you get out to do something, it's baking hot.

But, we needed some exercise, and they have a couple of old bicycles here at the resort. They are junk, and not comfortable to ride, and the gears don't work properly... but we set off anyhow to a waterfall about 5 kms (3 miles) away.

Along the way, we saw one of these big birdhouse buildings...

Birdhouse.

The birdhouses contain swallows... and there is a lucrative market for the nests that they produce. One article I read says "bird’s nests have always commanded high demand in China, where people buy them for use in skincare, anti-cancer regiments and as a treatment for impotence.".

Hmph. Who knew?

We got to a point on the bicycles where it was a bit uphill, and we decided to park them and walk the rest of the way.

Walking to the waterfall.

Unfortunately, we got to the Veal Puoch Waterfall and there was no water!

You can tell that during rainy season, this is a popular spot for people to come and cool off. But without any water, there was hardly anybody around.

One little puddle at the bottom, slowly drying up.

Scenery along the way.

So, that was kind of waste of time. But, we did get out and get some exercise, and that's important.

Back at the resort, we ordered some lunch from the same Indian restaurant we had ordered from the first day we were here. We only ordered three dishes, but there was so much food that we saved one of them for dinner!

Spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool.

Another couple showed up here at the resort, so now we have to share the pool!

By the way, that's three days in a row that I have gone in to cool off.

Thinking we're going to stay here one extra day (which is not a hardship!). The visa office is supposed to open again the morning of the 15th, so we're hoping they are issued that day. If so, we can take the early bus back to Phnom Penh on the 16th, and go directly to Ho Chi Minh City from there without having to overnight in Phnom Penh. We'll see!

Up early this morning, because we are going kayaking and want to go before it gets too hot.
