This is MUCH better... and, some exciting news!

We moved yesterday... to a much nicer spot.

Before we left though, we walked into town to do some stocking up. The new place isn't walking distance to any worthwhile shops, and we knew we were going to have a fridge in the room at the new place, so we could do our own breakfast. And keep some beer cold!

It was noon by the time we checked out. Paid our $21 USD ($28 CAD) room bill for two nights, and ordered a Grab tuk-tuk to take us the 5 kms (3 miles) or so into the countryside.

The new place is called Jasmine Resort Kampot. (Not be be confused with the similarly named Jasmine River Resort in town). It consists of five single story bungalows on one side of the pool, and five double story bungalows on the opposite side of the pool.

Comfy bed.

And it's all pretty much brand new. The entire complex was built as a project during Covid, and it's hardly been used. They haven't done much advertising, and it's actually up for sale ($850,000 USD) or rent. Want to run your own business?

In fact, we think we are the only guests right now. Very strange, since it's a beautiful place, and only $27 USD ($36 CAD) per night.

We needed some food, but there are only two or three places within walking distance. The owner here said that we don't need to go anywhere, just order in! So he told me about the NHAM24 app that everybody uses here to order food. You can order pretty much anything in town, and it gets delivered here. The delivery cost is under a dollar!

We ordered three different Indian dishes.
It came to $13 USD ($17.70 CAD) delivered!
It took exactly 40 minutes to arrive from the time I ordered it.

They have a cat who has three adorable little kittens.

Time for a swim!

The water temperature is perfect! And yes, I got in as well. No photo proof, but Ruth says she'll get a photo the next time, and there will be a next time. I'm allergic to cold water, but this water is just right. And when it's baking hot, I don't mind getting in the water that's just the right temperature!

Yep, this will do for the next four nights!

End of another day in Cambodia.

So... we have some exciting onward travel news!

Last night I booked flights to Maldives! And then after that, I booked flights to Abu Dhabi!

We want to be in Istanbul for early April (less than two months from now), and our original thinking was to fly direct from Bangkok to Istanbul, which is a ten hour flight.

But then I started looking at options, and it turns out that we can break up that distance for not much more money. And see some new countries in the process!

So, we will be flying Bangkok to Male, Maldives on March 23rd. Then Maldives to Abu Dhabi, UAE. Then Abu Dhabi to Kuwait City. Then Kuwait to Istanbul.

And we're going to stay three or four nights at each location. I've already booked our accommodation in Maldives, because the cheaper places go quickly. Maldives in known as an expensive resort destination, but it can be done relatively cheaply. For perspective, we will be paying about $50 USD a night including breakfast.

I haven't booked the next two flights yet, but I'll do that today.

Here's what our flight routing will look like.

  1. I love the looks of where you are staying now; the pool is stunning, the bungalow is lovely, and no other guests is priceless! Not to mention the very cheap food delivery. Heaven!

    1. We are loving it here, so glad we made the decision to move over here and to spend a little extra money so that we can enjoy ourselves in this heat. Another couple arrived yesterday but we have hardly seen them, so we still have managed to have the pool to ourselves.

We couldn't believe how easy and fairly inexpensive it was to get our lunch delivered to us all the way out here, we almost feel like royalty, lol!

    1. It has been lovely here!

We wish they would do that here too but unfortunately that is not the culture. This cat was not theirs, instead it left it's home and carried her kittens to our host's place where they have been looking after her and her three kittens since.

  3. Wow, that was a welcome change. Dubai, how cool is that! Abu Dhabi is just up the road about 130 km.

    1. This place as a wonderful spot. Nice and relaxing, just what we needed.

it's Abu Dhabi that we are going too, not Dubai.
