Also, it's located a 15 minute walk from the terminal itself, and the commuter rail line to Bangkok's main train station. So it's really convenient as well.

The total bill was 110 baht ($3.10 USD, $4.20 CAD) for the two of us! While Thailand has definitely become more expensive than we expected for accommodation, you can still get some good local meals for ridiculously cheap prices.
We took the commuter train from the airport to the main Bang Sue train station where we had a two hour wait for our 3:10pm departure to Hua Hin.

Our train departed right on time at 3:10pm. We were in the cheap third class non air conditioned car. And yes, it was cheap! For the 238 km (148 mile), three and a half hour journey, it cost 95 baht ($2.65 USD, $3.60 CAD) per person!
No photos from the train. Not very comfortable seating either, and we were facing backwards as well. But that's what you get when you pay the big bucks! Anyway, we arrived at Hua Hin's brand new railway station at about 6:50pm.

We took a Grab taxi ($4) from the train station to the condo building. Had no problem getting the keys from security, and dropped off our gear before heading out for some dinner.
This is our home for the next two weeks.

And a gym, and lots of community outdoor space for the residents.
The room itself is a little small, and we have no view from our balcony, but it will do. Oh, and we have our own washing machine!
For 660 baht ($18.55 USD, $25 CAD) a night for a two week stay, we are totally happy!
We went to a higher end Thai restaurant in the same complex for dinner. It was still cheap, but the final bill came to 448 baht ($12.65 USD, $17 CAD) for the two of us. Anyhow, I forgot until half way through the meal that I didn't have enough baht in cash to pay the bill! We hadn't been to an ATM yet since arriving in the country and were still using leftover baht from when we were here in December. I had some $USD cash, and offered that but the lady says "no problem, just pay next time you come in".

So obviously we will stop in again. Besides, their Thai Red Curry was absolutely delicious.
Then we went to a big shopping mall that's only a five minute walk away where there is a big modern grocery store and we bought some breakfast items. We'll go back and do a more major shop today.
So far, it looks like this was a really good choice for somewhere to waste two weeks!

Wow, that room is like a studio apartment! I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel-type accommodation with a washer...that's awesome, and for the price you're paying, an amazing value. Food looked great and so inexpensive. Astonishing!
ReplyDeleteThe room is a studio apartment in a condo building that we found on Airbnb, although they do have a section in a separate building that is a hotel but this section is all residences.
DeleteAs long as you stay away from the touristy restaurants and go to the little local food restaurants then yes, the meals are nice and cheap. When we arrived in Hua Hin, we went into an Indian Restaurant that was just outside our complex and sat down. We were given menus and we started looking through them and realized the food there was expensive for Thailand, they were wanting almost $12 CAD ($8.90 USD) just for the Butter Chicken dish and that didn't include the rice so we ended up just walking out and finding another place where we got our entire meal with a beer and wine for $17 CAD ($12.60 USD) total.
Unbelievable! You'll do quite nicely there for two weeks. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYes, we will do just fine here but it really is touristy compared to where we were wanting to go near a big national park northwest of Bangkok. It is still hot here but not as hot as it would have been there and here we at least have the ocean and a pool to cool off in.
