Everything went smoothly, except that the train was a half hour late arriving. Apparently Thai trains are notorious for this, however our experience to date with the Thai train system has been really good.
So, we had an extra half hour wait at the station, and then we hopped on the train...
Ruth, with all of our worldly belongings as the train arrives.
We paid the extra couple of dollars to upgrade to second class.
We had done third class on the trip down, but the benches were a bit hard and it really was starting to get uncomfortable during the last hour. Second class without air conditioning isn't always available, but this time it was. With the windows wide open, it's actually quite comfortable.
Ussie on the train!
And, this is why I don't normally take photos from a bus or train!
Wires the whole way.
We arrived at Bangkok's Bang Sue train station right on time, so somehow the driver must have put the pedal down! Then we hopped on the red line commuter train north to the Don Muang Airport where we fly out to Maldives from tomorrow morning. From there, it was a ten minute walk to the same accommodation we stayed at when we left from here two weeks ago.
One last plate of authentic Pad Thai!
So, next time you hear from us, we will be in the Maldives. We fly out at 9:15am Saturday morning and arrive just before noon. Then hop on the local public ferry for a two hour ride to our island where we will spend the next four days!
