Spent the morning researching various flight options to arrange meeting up with our daughter Lindsey and granddaughter Sadie in Paris. And the plan is starting to come together!
We've got her flights booked now. She's going to arrive in London a bit earlier and spend a couple of days with Ruth's aunt. Then they are going to hop on the chunnel train and take the train to Paris on May 1st. We will fly May 1st from Antalya, and meet them in Paris.
Ruth and I have been to Paris airport a couple of times, but we've never been into the city itself. My father has a few photos from his visit there in 1954, so we'll be on a mission to do some more photo match ups!
We're only going to be in Paris for two full days though. Just enough time to see the highlights. It's an expensive city, so we're getting in and out quickly! Then the four of us will fly from Paris to Bristol, England on May 4th and spend a couple of days there before making our way down to Ruth's cousin Helen and Tony's. The main reason we're going there is for their son's wedding May 18th, but Lindsey and Sadie are headed back to Canada on the 11th.
So we've got a ton of exciting travel coming up over the next two months! Maldives, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Istanbul, Antalya, Paris, and England! Wow. We're pretty excited!
Yesterday, we did something that doesn't happen very often. We went shopping!
There are two big shopping malls that are walking distance from our condo here in Hua Hin, Thailand.
Ruth picking out a new top.
I bought a t-shirt and Ruth bought a new top. Total cost, 300 baht ($8.40 USD, $11.30 CAD) for the two items.
My t-shirt is size 2XL... too funny. The Thai people are mostly very small bone structure, so the local sizing is quite different to what we're used to.
Then we picked up a few groceries and walked back to the condo. One thing about the shopping malls... they are nicely air conditioned!

And in Canada...
Yes, we always enjoyed the rare occasions we went to a mall in Merida in the Yucatan; the excellent air-conditioning was a blessed relief from the heat and humidity! One odd thing to us was that malls don't open until 11 am there. Several times we took the bus to the city and ended up waiting (with a lot of locals) until the doors opened!
ReplyDeletewe agree with you, the odd time it is nice going in and walking around the mall, especially with this heat.
DeleteThe malls here all seem to open up earlier than 11 am but to be honest we aren't sure when they open but they close quite late, I think they close around 10 pm. What is weird though, are the times that you can buy alcohol. You can only buy it between 11 am and 2 pm and then again from 5 pm to midnight. We remember in Mexico you had to wait until 12 noon on Sundays before buying alcohol.
Just like here in North Carolina - an old "Blue Law" that remains in effect to this day. I believe South Carolina doesn't allow any alcohol sales on Sunday, or at least they didn't in the past.
ReplyDeleteOr like some counties in Texas that are still dry counties and you can't buy alcohol at all!
