Kind of a funny story, actually

We don't have much planned for our time here in Antalya. That's one of the reasons we chose to pay a little extra for a central location, because at least there is a lot of walking to be done. Antalya has some beautiful coastal walks right here in the center of the city.

The other reason we have no plans is because Ruth has a medical issue she wants an opinion on. I won't get into the details yet, until we know for sure what the problem and solution is. Don't worry, it's not life threatening!

But this way, we have until the end of the month to get it fixed, depending on what the solution is. May is fairly busy for us, and we will be in the UK for pretty much the whole month. But we've got a two week window now, and Turkiye's private medical system is efficient and reasonably priced, so it's best to get it done here.

A beautiful day in Antalya.

We have our ophthalmologist appointment Tuesday morning. And yesterday, we made a doctors appointment for Ruth tomorrow at noon. Kind of a funny story actually.

We found a suitable doctor nearby, so we decided to just walk over there in person. Saturday is generally a work day here, but it was the end of the three day holiday, so we weren't surprised to find the office closed.

There was a caretaker/security guy on the ground floor of the building. He spoke no English, but we managed to convey which doctor we were looking for. So he gets out his phone, and calls the doctor directly on a day off! That's just how things work here in Turkiye. The same way that our ophthalmologist is a facebook friend and when we needed an appointment I just had to send him a message.

The doctor speaks English, so the guy handed Ruth the phone, and next thing you know, she has an appointment for Monday at noon.

We went for a nice walk along the waterfront.

This is what we call "the wedding street" because there are many shops selling wedding clothing.
There are quite a few statues along the street, all of them playing a different musical instrument.

We walked by Hadrian's Gate, the original entrance to the city that is about 2,000 years old.

There's a small butcher shop near our apartment, and he was doing roast chickens yesterday. We planned on getting one, but we went there just after 6:00pm, and they were all sold out. We'll have to go earlier next time.

Today, we are walking over to a gluten free store, and checking out the old harbor area. Then this afternoon, we are meeting some more fellow full time travelers.

  1. Looks like such a gorgeous place with the blue blue water and mountain views. Ruth, you look the picture of health. Hope all checks out okay. So far, I have been very lucky, health-wise, with a basal cell skin cancer the worst health-related issue that has cropped up since I turned 60 (and just a week ago, 63). Keeping up the healthy habits and fingers crossed!

    1. Antalya really is a lovely city with a picturesque setting, if we had to live in a city I think that we could easily live in this one and be quite happy.

I feel totally healthy and my only real kind of health issue up until now was also having a basal cell skin cancer spot removed about 8 or so years ago. I am really hoping that my issue isn"t going to be much more than a minor issue but we will know more after my appointment today and what steps need to be taken if any. Yep, got healthy habits are definitely the best way to keep your health in check but sometime even that doesn't help, some things are just unavoidable.
