Day trip down to the Jurassic Coast

We were all up at 6:00am Sunday morning. We had made a plan that we would drive down to England's southern Jurassic Coast and arrive there before the crowds. It was supposed to be a beautiful day, and based on the weather forecast it might be the last one for quite some time!

Our thinking was that we would then be able to head back later that morning while most of the traffic would be in the opposite direction.

We arrived at the tiny community of Studland just before 8:00am.

The Bankes Arms Pub in Studland.

Helen and Tony headed down to the beach with Benji the dog. Ruth and I took off on a hike to Old Harry Rocks... about a mile each way.

Very calm start to the day.

Looking back at where we had come from.

Lots of cliffs on this part of the coast.

End of the trail. Some people are brave enough to go further, but with a very steep drop off either side, it didn't seem to be a logical choice!

Beautiful day!

The point at Old Harry Rocks.

Another odd rock.

It's a really pretty area.

We had been in touch with blog readers Donna and Rick who live in Swanage just down the road from here, and we were hoping to get together because they have sold their house and are looking to embark on a similar lifestyle to ours.

So I sent them a note hoping we would be able to get together with last minute notice, and she got back to me right away. Unfortunately her husband Rick couldn't join us, but we arranged a meeting at a breakfast spot nearby.

Part of the trail went through this pretty forest.

We saw three deer in this field.

"Do I run, or do I stand still hoping they won't see me?"

South Beach.

Zoomed in a little, you can see there are people swimming.

The swimmers coming back to shore.

This was six month old Benji's first time in the water, and he sure had fun playing. (Tony's photo).

Benji is such a good boy. (Tony's photo).

We drove over to the restaurant which was located at Durlston Head.

View from Durlston Head.

Zoomed in on where we had been gives an entirely different perspective.

We met up with Donna and had full English breakfast.

Had a nice chat with Donna. Shame that her husband Rick couldn't come with her, but who knows, maybe we'll meet up with them at some point in their travels. She is originally from New Zealand, so they are headed from here to Thailand in September, planning on being in New Zealand for Christmas.

Kevin, Ruth, and Donna.

Just below the restaurant is the largest stone globe in the world.

All kinds of facts as they were known in 1891.

There is another section of coastal path.

Guillemots on a rock down below.

We even saw a couple of pods of dolphins!

On the way back home, driving through Corfe Castle where the remains of the castle are up on a hill.

Helen made a delicious roast lamb for us all in the evening...

Mmmm!

Nice price drop on the popular JBL Go 3 Bluetooth Speaker.

And in Canada...
