I had mentioned yesterday that because our easyJet flight from Paris to Bristol was late arriving that we may be entitled to compensation. The European Union (EU) has some strict regulations governing the airlines and their commitments to their passengers, and if your arriving flight is more than three hours late, you can submit a claim to the airline.
Well, our flight was three hours and six minutes late. And that was according to the easyJet app itself.
So yesterday afternoon, I went to the claims section of the easyJet website and it only took about five minutes to fill in the form. I hit "send", and immediately got back an automated email saying that my claim had been received they would do an investigation and get back to me within 4 weeks.
Not even five minutes later, I got another email...
Dear Kevin,
Thanks for submitting your claim.
We’ve had a look at your claim request and are pleased to tell you that you’re eligible for compensation. We’ll now process a payment of 880.00GBP to your bank account.
Please allow up to 7 days for the payment to show in your bank account. If 7 days have passed and you’re unable to see the funds in your bank account, please contact your bank directly.
We apologize again that your flight 2774 was disrupted and we hope to welcome you on board again soon.
Now, that's the way you look after your customers! Air Canada could learn a thing or two, as could the Canadian government! We walk away from the experience loving easyJet, instead of hating them.
So, we get back £880 ($1,104 USD, $1,510 CAD) for the four flights that we only paid £233 ($292 USD, $400 CAD) for in the first place!
What a bonus. Because we originally paid for Lindsey and Sadie to come over here, our expenses for the months of April and May were going to be really high. This goes a long way towards reducing them to a more reasonable level. Oh, I still haven't posted our expenses from April. I'll do that soon.
We really like the Washington Hotel in Bristol. We had signed up for the breakfast included deal, and it was a great breakfast!
Nice hot breakfast!
And then we set out to explore the city.
Scenery along the way.
Inside the University of Bristol Tower.
They wanted £5 each to go up the tower, but you can do the nearby Cabot Tower for free.
It's an impressive building though.
The Alms House, built in 1483!
Nice bay window.
If you click the photo to make it full screen, then click again to zoom in, you can see the 1483 date.
Ruth, Sadie, and Lindsey on Christmas Street.
We walked by a street food area and this guy had these three huge pots of paella cooking.
Interesting waterfall stairs.
Heading over to check out the ferris wheel.
But they wanted £6.50 ($8 USD, $11 CAD) per adult!
Bristol harbour.
Love locks on the bridge.
The patio bar street was pretty quiet on a Sunday morning. I bet it was a lot busier on Saturday night!
Nice looking old pub.
Near the old corn exchange market.
Another nice pub. Ruth likes the elephant relief statue.
Barbershop... Men's Stress Free Zone!
Old buildings.
We walked by the guy doing paella again, and it was ready to eat! So we picked up a box to go to share with our sandwiches.
Giant prawn paella.
Spring flowers and the Bristol Cathedral.
Heading back uphill.
Sadie, climbing the steps to the Cabot Tower.
Nice view from the top.
Lindsey taking a photo of the view from Cabot Tower.
Sadie on the trail back home.
We've had a good visit to Bristol!
Today, we take the bus to the town of Glastonbury where Helen and Tony will pick us up. Looking forward to lots of laughs with them over the next few days!

Great deal on this 300 Wh Lithium Ion Power Station.
And in Canada...
Nice deal on this Acer Aspire 17" Laptop.
Wow, you made out like bandits on that flight refund. I have never heard of getting a refund more than the price of the item itself - sweet! Looks like an absolutely charming spot to visit, and the paella looked amazing. Hope it tasted good too!
ReplyDeleteYep we sure did make out like bandits, it was great news for us. The EU has strict rules and they make sure that the customer is properly compensated and the amount you recieve is all dependent on the distance of the flight not the price you paid for the ticket.
DeleteBristol really is a pretty city and we once again enjoyed our time there. The paella was very good but it could have been a bit more spicy.
