Still overcast and misty even though there was no actual rain in the forecast. High of 12C (54F).
Easily found a parking space by the trailhead to do the hike up to Pendle Hill. 9.4 kms (5.8 miles) round trip, with a fairly gradual uphill climb.
Ruth's first time with her new boots.
Hopefully she'll get two years out of them.
Setting off. Wish that was our motorhome sitting there!
Looking down towards the town of Clitheroe.
We are headed this way.
Not sure why they call it a "forest". Not many trees around!
Looking back at Ruth.
Scenery along the way.
As we got higher, it was quite foggy.
We followed this stream for a while.
Made it to the top of Pendle Hill.
It was cold and windy at the top. And nowhere to sit down and have our lunch. And of course nothing to see. There is normally really good views up here. Oh well. The main reason for the hike was just to get some exercise. We ate some food, and headed back down.
When we made it back below the clouds, it had actually brightened up a bit.
Back at the road.
We are trying to get out and do some hills every day to get in shape for our upcoming Peaks of the Balkans hike in Albania, Kosova, and Montenegro.
So today, we are up early and heading about an hour and fifteen minutes north of here to the town of Coniston, located in Lake District National Park. We're meeting friends David and Mirsie who drove down from their home in Scotland to meet up with us to do a hike today. Planning on doing the Old Man of Coniston hike that has a 2,500' elevation gain.
And, we have woken up to a clear blue sky! Forecast high of 20C (68F) which is absolutely perfect to be enjoying the outdoors.
