You have to celebrate the tiny wins!

So we're out doing some grocery shopping last Thursday, and I happened to see the deodorant that I like, and it was on sale. Regular price $4.29, on sale for $2.99. Not bad. Anyhow, I picked one up.

I'd say 80% of the time, we check the prices on the bill as we walk out of the grocery store.  The other 20% of the time, we simply forget. But we're normally pretty good at checking.

And, when we do check, I'd say that 10% of the time there is something not right. And it turns out that either the shelf label was incorrect, or the product wasn't in the right place and the shelf label didn't match up with the product and we didn't check the shelf label closely enough.

And in this era of high grocery prices, every penny counts. And you've all heard the old saying "if you look after the pennies, the dollars look after themselves".

This time, we forgot to check the bill until we got home. And the deodorant had been charged at the regular price of $4.29. So we kept the bill, and happened to be driving by that store again yesterday, so we popped in.

I went to the aisle, and it was still as advertised.

So I took a photo and we went to customer service.

Here in Canada, we have the Scanner Price Accuracy Code. Basically what it says is that if the scanner price does not match the advertised or shelf price, you get the shelf price minus $10. That means anything under $10 is free, and everything else is discounted by $10.

So, my deodorant was free. Yay! Hey, it's only $3, but you have to celebrate the tiny wins!

It's been baking hot here in Ottawa this weekend, so any work on Igor has to be done before 10am or after 4pm when the sun moves to the other side of the house and Igor is in the shade.

Yesterday, I started working on window coverings.

We hated the still original window coverings on the side and rear doors.

They're almost useless.

They didn't block out any light, half of the one in the photo above was actually installed upside down, and of course they would be terrible for any kind of "stealth" camping, which of course is a bit tough to do in the first place given Igor's looks to begin with.

So we bought some of this stuff... Window Blackout Material.

I removed the original curtain...

And so this is the way it will look during the day.

And I cut and trimmed the blackout curtain to fit the window. You then install double sided tape velcro on the frame around the window, and the corresponding velcro on the curtain. It is so simple to attach.

What it looks like from the inside.

And what it looks like from the outside.

At first, I wasn't overly impressed with the material itself. It seemed pretty flimsy. But I had a leftover piece from the cutting, and I tried to rip it or stretch it by hand, and I couldn't. It's a lot stronger than it appears!

We ordered the "blue on one side" color so that it would sort of match Igor's interior, but the blue actually has a bit of a purple look to it. So we should have stuck with either black or white. White might have reflected the interior lighting better at night. Anyhow, we've got what we've got now, so it will have to do.

Overall, I'm really happy with it. Two done, two to go!
