Ottawa to Ingleside... day 1

Went over and said goodbye to my mother on Wednesday morning. We'll be back again in mid September, so won't be gone long this time around.

Then it was back to finish packing up Igor, but we were almost done anyhow. It never did rain like they were forecasting, so that was good.

We hit the road about 11:00am, but we had a couple of stops to make. And, we were on a bit of a schedule because we were trying to get to Ingleside about 1:00pm to meet up with blog readers Darlene and Dave from Seattle, who just happened to be coming through the area on their way to the Gaspe Peninsula.

First stop was to fill up Igor's propane tank. I was a bit worried because the tank (although perfectly good) has a bit of rust on it, and Ontario has the strictest propane regulations in the world. I had made a phone call to a propane shop and he recommended a place we could go that was along our way. It turned out to be no problem, but when he filled it, the auto shut off stopped it, the way it is supposed to when it is 80% full. The only problem is that the gauge says it's only about 65% full. So, either the gauge is not accurate, or the fill stop is not working properly. I guess there will be some trial and error involved.

Next stop was to drop off the original house batteries that were in Igor. I have replaced them with lithium. Good thing too, because they weren't even deep cycle. They were regular engine starter batteries, and they were dated 2019, so I'm sure they were done. Anyhow, the scrap metal place gave us slightly more than $9 each for them... so we had some lunch money!

We arrived a bit late in Ingleside, and met up with Darlene and Dave. They had been traveling full time since 2017, and a medical setback had them buying a place in North Carolina. But with that behind them, they are back on the road again. Lots of great conversation, and hopefully we'll bump into each other again sometime.

And then it was over to friends Bob and Denise who live in Ingleside. Haven't seen them since last October so it was good to get caught up. They were on two of our Mexico RV trips along with their dog Scarlett. Scarlett is now 15 years old, and has slowed down quite a bit.

Chef Bob made a great dinner for us all, and we enjoyed a few adult beverages together as well!

Lots of fun, and we'll hopefully see them again when we pass through in mid September.

So, we were going to head out this morning around 10:00am. Before we did, I wanted to fill up the fresh water tank which I had not tested yet.

Apparently I should have tested it!

The tank filled with no problem. I put a little in at first, then drained it out. Then filled it up. I turned the water pump on, and it was working and you could tell it was trying to prime itself. I could get pressure out the hot water drain, but nothing out the kitchen sink faucet.

So I started poking around, and quickly found a leak. I repaired that leak, and then found some valves hidden way in the back under the sink that were off. I turned one of them on, and you could hear the water trying to come out the kitchen faucet. But it didn't. I soon found out that there was another leak, and it wasn't going to be an easy fix like the first one.

So, a bit upset about that because the woman who sold us the rig had to have known about this problem. But, buyer beware, so that's on me. Anyhow, I'm sure we'll get it fixed up, but it can wait until we get to Lindsey's. For the time being, we'll just figure our way through it like we always do!

We did finally hit the road... at about 11:30am.

  1. Igor looks fantastic. You got a good deal and there will always be some bugs to work out, even if it's new!

    1. Thanks Chris! He will look even better once Kevin finishes up on our "renos"! We still have a fair bit that we want to do to Igor but he has definitely come a long way from when we bought him a month ago.
