Arrived in Quebec City

The campground was quiet. There's a reason we normally choose the September/October time frame to return to Canada. The kids are back in school, the weather is perfect, and the bug season is generally over.

We did our laundry on Monday morning before leaving the campground, but we were still on the road by 10:15am or so, headed southwest along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River towards Quebec City.

Lots of nice scenery along this route, and the trees are starting to show some color.

We stopped for propane. We had filled the tank, or at least we thought we did, when we left Ottawa, but at the time it was only registering about half. I thought there was maybe something wrong with the gauge. But this time, the guy filled it up, and it actually reads full. So we'll see.

Beautiful scenery.

A friend of mine had suggested we stop for a wander around the town of Baie-Saint Paul. It's got a nice church and a small quaint downtown area with lots of art galleries and bistros and cafes. Not really our thing but we had a nice walk around.

The big church in Baie-Saint-Paul.
The interior was very plain... not even photo worthy!

The main drag.

Old building with wood carvings.

We had some lunch in the van, and got back on the road. Very little traffic, and at times we had the road to ourselves. Ruth had taken a few photos on our old phone (because I use the good one for GPS directions while driving) but it's old, and is just about done. It now refuses to connect to my laptop, and is acting up when connecting to the internet as well. Anyhow, no big deal, but we will get her a new one next month when we are house sitting.

Made our way through the center of Quebec City, again with very little traffic, and a free parking lot just below the famous Plains of Abraham. It's not ideal... lots of traffic, and the heavy trucks from a nearby industrial area start about 6:00am. But on the bright side, it's free, safe, and only a 4 km (2.5 mile) walk to the old center of Quebec City.

Yes, there are a few other RV's here as well.

After dinner, we walked up to a grocery store to pick up a few things.

We went up the 300 steps to the Plains of Abraham.

Nice view of the marina and the St. Lawrence River.

Looking down river.

You can sit and watch the freighters go by.

A pretty spot in the park.

My phone takes spectacular low light photos.
It was pretty much dusk when this was taken.

Slept okay, and this morning we will walk into old town Quebec City and wander around. We've been here before, but it was way back in 2008.

Yesterday's drive.

  1. I love the photo of Ruth on the bridge - so serene and well-composed. Am I remembering correctly that you have an LG Power phone, Kevin? I just bought one (LG Power 5G 2024 model) to replace my ailing Nokia, and I looooove it. Haven't had the opportunity to take many photos yet, and no low-light ones, but if it's the same phone, I'm glad to see what good photos it takes!

    1. Kevin has an Honor Magic 5 Pro. It is not for sale retail in either Canada or the US, Kevin had to go through a 3rd party to buy the phone and it shipped straight from Hong Kong. He is really happy with the camera on the phone. It has quite a different price point from yours though.

I hope that you will like it and that it will take some nice pictures for you as well.

  2. Thanks - and I misspoke, mine is a Moto G Power (not LG!) But you're right, it's much less pricey than Kevin's phone...not sure why I thought he had bought a Moto G Power. So, mine probably won't take amazing photos, but I am no photographer, so I expect they'll be fine for my purposes.

    1. Kevin's old phone, the one that I have now and that is starting to fall apart is a Moto G Power, so you aren't totally mistaken. He bought the old Moto G one back in 2020 and last year it was starting to give us a few problems and at the time we also needed a new camera so he decided to splurge get a really good phone/camera. The Moto G takes ok pictures but definitely not like the quality ones he is getting now with the Honor Magic. He was very happy with the Moto G one, especially considering what we paid for it at the time.

    2. Thanks, Ruth...I was so sure I remembered that! Mine is the new 2024 model, so the cameras may be a bit better now, along with other things. It is certainly much speedier than my previous phone that was getting almost unusable!

    3. We are sure that they have made the phone better over the last four years and as I said Kevin was definitely happy with the phone and even the pictures but it didn't have the zoom that this one has. I have no doubt that you will enjoy it, especially if your last one was almost unusable!
