Igor's first paid camping spot

We were in need of showers and laundry. Yes, Igor does have a shower, but it's a bit cramped. It works if you have to, but it's not ideal. So if there is somewhere else that is convenient, we prefer that.

And in the town of Tadoussac, there was a listing for showers ($1 for five minutes) and a laundry at a municipal park near the marina. Sounds good to us!

So we headed there.

We've never done the north shore of the St. Lawrence, and we haven't done any research. So we're just going with the flow. Well it's a good thing, because it turns out that the town of Tadoussac is a popular tourist destination! And so it's busy on a nice Sunday... it was actually a zoo.

Add on that it's not RV friendly, with a general lack of parking even for cars.

And when we did find a parking spot, it was quite far from the laundry, and they wanted $5 an hour. No thanks.

So we carried on.

Waiting for the free ferry at Tadoussac.

The ferry crossing at Tadoussac is free, and part of the highway system. It's a busy crossing that runs 24/7. We had to wait about 20 minutes.

There is another Quebec national park along the right side of Sagueny Fjord.

It was only about a 15 minute ride across.

We continued on towards Quebec City, but stopped for lunch at a pretty picnic spot with a view of the river.

Parked for lunch.

While we were parked for lunch, I had a quick look to see if there were any campgrounds along the way that were reasonably priced, and had good ratings and laundry and hot showers. I know... a lot to ask!

I found one that had fantastic reviews. It was right along the route, so we stopped in to have a look.

Yep, this is the place.

As per the reviews, the lady at the desk was super friendly and helpful. I explained what we wanted... no services, and hopefully away from everybody else. Fortunately, it's off season now, and not busy... especially not on a Sunday night.

She gave me a couple of options, and I went and picked a perfect site. The price was still high (by our standards!), but she was negotiable and we agreed on $35 CAD ($26 USD) taxes included. The showers and laundry also cost, but they are cheap.

Igor, in his camping spot.

This area is popular for whale watching. In fact they do tours out of the harbor at Tadoussac. Here at the campground they have an observation balcony for those who want to watch for whales, dolphins, and seals.

No, we didn't see any.

Yesterday's drive.

Heading for Quebec City today.
