Miramichi was okay, but unimpressed with Bathurst

The rain had stopped overnight and it was starting out to be a nice day. We hadn't had a walk around town the day before due to the rain, so we went for a walk before heading out of Miramichi.

We had a quiet night parked outside the library.
And, with a good strong WiFi connection!

Wandering around Miramichi.

Ruth, admiring a nice wall mural!

A more detailed look.

Park along the waterfront.

Lots of ducks beside the Miramichi River.

More ducks!

The Miramichi Bridge in the distance.

Ruth and the Miramichi sign.

The old courthouse has been turned into apartments.

The downtown area.

Another mural.

A big old home undergoing some renovations.

This one has been turned into a bed and breakfast.

This one needs some work.

We hit the road about 11:00am and headed to the small city of Bathurst (pop 12,200). We had been on a fairly nice highway, but entering the outskirts of the city, the road condition deteriorated quickly. Absolutely awful roads in Bathurst. No point in having speed limits, because there's no way you could travel that fast... you'd damage your vehicle!

We made a little detour to the Daly Point Nature Reserve to do some hiking.

They had a trail that followed the shoreline.

It was a nice walk, but there were still a lot of mosquitoes even this late in the season.

Me, on the boardwalk.

We went and wandered around the city of Bathurst itself, but we were unimpressed. Didn't even take any photos! And two hour parking limits everywhere, despite the fact that there were literally hundreds of empty parking spots. Nowhere near as parking friendly as Miramichi.

We headed further north to a waterfront spot in the village of Petit-Rocher that got good reviews on iOverlander.

At first, we parked here.

And we were prepared to stay there, but we went for a walk and it turned out there was somewhere better.

Yep, this will do.

And there was a really nice park nearby where we went and sat and played some backgammon.

A great free overnight spot, even with clean flush toilets. Really surprised that it wasn't busier with RV's... there was only us and one other... a pickup truck camper.

Headed up to Dalhousie and Campbellton today.

Yesterday's drive.

Nice price drop on the Fire HD 10 Tablet.

And in Canada...
