It was looking like a really nice day, and we had a plan to climb Campbellton's Sugarloaf Mountain before heading across the border into Quebec.
It's not really a mountain as such... more of a hill, but it does provide some beautiful views of the area. From the time we parked, it was about forty minutes to get to the top.
It's a popular climb, so they've installed some stairs to make it a bit easier.
Ruth, climbing up behind me.
There is a viewpoint at the top.
What a gorgeous day.
Campbellton, New Brunswick.
Zoomed in on the bridge over to Quebec.
Panoramic view looking east.
Nicely framed by the trees.
We decided not to stop and wander around the town. We crossed over the bridge to Quebec and right there on the opposite side is an Indian reserve where they have discounted prices on liquor, fuel, and cannabis. We're not interested in the pot, but we'll take some of the fuel and booze!
We filled up at $1.469 CAD per liter ($4.08 USD per gal), which is about ten cents a liter cheaper than off reserve price.
Then we popped in to get some wine and beer. The beer I like worked out to $2.75 CAD ($2.02 USD) for a half liter can, compared to the $4.25 CAD ($3.13 USD) it had been in Nova Scotia. Worthwhile stop, for sure!
We headed east along the southern coast of the Gaspe Peninsula and headed inland at the town of Carlton Sur Mer to a hiking trailhead where we found a perfect overnight spot for Igor.
Gravel road to the trailhead.
Igor, parked for the night at GPS 48.17276, -66.063621
Ruth, making dinner.
I haven't shown you many photos of Igor's interior. We'll do a video tour for you once we get parked up at our housesit near Ottawa October 1st.
Today, we are headed up to Gaspesie National Park for some more hiking.
