We think we're ready to go!

It's been a fun and productive month here at our daughter's place in Nova Scotia. We spent a lot of time with the family, and got a lot done to Igor!

And we were sure lucky with the weather. Very little rain, and temperatures between 20C to 28C (68F to 82F). Couldn't have asked for much better.

And now we are in to September. This is when we had originally planned to return to Canada before we were called back early to help with my mother. We've always said that September is the best time to be in Canada... the weather is cooler, the kids are back in school so it's not so busy when we're out exploring, and the mosquitoes and black flies are pretty much done until next spring.

We are going to spend the next two weeks or so meandering our way back to the Ottawa area.

This is the approximate route that we have planned.

So, about 1,800 kms (1,100 miles) in total. Over 14 days, that's an average of about 130 kms (80 miles) per day. Absolutely perfect for the way we like to travel!

We've never done the north shore of the St. Lawrence River coming down from Baie-Comeau, Quebec, so we're going to spend the extra to take Igor on his first ferry ride with us across that river. It's supposed to be a nice drive.

So, we think we're ready to go! It's time to hit the road!

  1. Your itinerary goes across the St.Lawrence river, which is a very nice experience. But I'd like to warn you because of a possible inconvenience : there is a labor dispute between the ferry boat operators and the workers -- they go on strike without previous notice, for one to 3 days at a time. You could be left on the shore, without a possibility to go across the St. Lawrence. There are three different crossing points from the South to the North shores, and ferries don't stop (for strikes) all at the same time. If things are really bad (if all are closed down) you can go all the way to Quebec City, take the Pierre-Laporte bridge and reach Highway 40 from there. Safe travels ! Hope you enjoy your trip through Charlevoix (the North shore region) -- it should be quite pretty at this time of year !

    1. Thanks for the warning armande. We aren't too bothered if the ferry we want isn't running, we will just head to the next one or just explore the south side of the St. Lawrence River and if we do get across it, we are planning on heading the whole way down the south side to probably Montreal and then follow the Ottawa River. We have no real plans so we are good to just go on the fly.

Yes, the trees should be starting to turn as we make our way back to Ottawa.
