Welcome to New Brunswick!

I had some internet work to do yesterday morning, so we got up and drove right away, at 6:30am. But we had a stop to make first! There was a nearby waterfall I wanted to see, so we got some exercise with an early morning hike to Drysdale Falls.

The falls are on private property and there are all kinds of old "no trespassing" signs. But you can tell that they are put there because the owner is concerned about being sued if someone hurts themselves on the property. The trail to the falls is well worn, and you can tell that people go there regularly.

I'm sure this is a popular swimming hole for the locals on a hot summer day.

We took a gravel road back down and saw this small snake who didn't survive.

From there, we did the short drive into the town of Tatamagouche. It's a nice place for a wander around. We parked at the local library which wasn't open until noon, but their WiFi signal was unsecured, and it worked well while sitting in Igor. So we sat and caught up on some internet stuff for a couple of hours, and then went for a walk around town.

We walked along part of the Trans Canada Trail.

We came across a private collection of railway cars...

A business in Tatamagouche has the largest Canadian collection of cabooses. 

Some are available for nightly rental.

We stopped into the main grocery store in Tatamagouche to pick up a few things... and walked out empty handed. There was no way we were paying those prices. $3.00 CAD ($2.25 USD) for a single cucumber? No thanks. We'll do without. 

We stopped in at Tidnish Dock Provincial Park.

I was surprised at how populated that whole drive was. Not much available in the way of decent free overnight spots. It was getting past 4:00pm by the time we crossed the border into New Brunswick and decided to stop in at a local winery where we were able to use their parking lot. Of course we realize that this always comes with a cost! But that's fine... we were due for a bottle of wine.

We had a good chat with the owner Elke of Winegarden Estate while she fed us some free samples. She's originally from Germany, but has been in Canada for forty years or so. Really nice lady, and we enjoyed the conversation.

We tried all of these! Good thing we weren't driving anywhere!

We couldn't decide which one to buy. We narrowed it down to a bottle of Merlot or a bottle of schnapps. Which one did we buy? Both! So, we can't buy a $3 cucumber, but we can buy a $16 bottle of wine, and a $25 bottle of booze... proof that you can justify anything you want!
