"I can't find our passports" says Freya.
They searched all of their belongings and the passports still didn't turn up. Then they decided to call the friend they had stayed with in Montreal. Sure enough, the passports were still at his place!
Now, how does one forget such an important document?
Well let us tell you, it can happen. We know! Back in 1993 when we flew to Antigua for a one week all inclusive vacation, we were flying out of Toronto, and we decided to drive from Ottawa to the Toronto airport. Half way there, Ruth says "I don't have my passport!".
It's such an awful feeling. And one that you don't ever forget. I'm sure they'll laugh about this in the future, but at least they knew where they were.
But, how to collect them?
Kevin, Ruth, Freya, Bjorn, and Igor!
Ruth and I had to be at our house sit for 2:00pm yesterday. So we decided that Bjorn and Freya would take off in the car back to Montreal, and Ruth and I would stay with Igor. We just found a park by the river in Manotick and hung out there through the lunch hour until 2:00pm when we went to the house sit. There, we dropped off our things and Ruth stayed at the house sit while I drove Igor the 40 minutes or so down to Highway 401 to meet Bjorn and Freya. There, we switched vehicles and they took off in Igor towards Niagara Falls while I took the car back home.
Whew... a bit of a panic for them, and some wasted time, but we figured it out!
So, we won't be reunited with them and Igor until the morning of November 13th.
Without Igor to keep us occupied, it's going to be pretty relaxing here at the house sit. Kind of looking forward to doing nothing for the next while!
Yesterday around dinner time, Ruth's new smartphone showed up. She only needed something as a backup phone, and to take photos while we're driving. So I looked for a deal on something inexpensive, and I came across a great deal! For a cheap unlocked phone, I think it's going to be great!
This is what we bought...
That happened to someone I worked with - he was driving from the U.S. to Canada and drove for 3 hours before he realized that he'd forgotten his passport and had to turn around and drive all the way back.
ReplyDeleteYikes, that would suck but at least he was driving across the border and not trying to get to the airport which is what happened to us. If we had to turn back to get my passport we would have missed our flight. Luckily when I did it, it was before 9/11 and they weren't quite so sticky about it. I at least had ID plus our marriage certificate and Kevin had his passport, somehow that was enough for them to let me on the plane.
