Progress report...

I'm not surprised that Igor's new gasoline furnace installation is taking a while. The system itself is fairly simple... but locating the unit in a suitable location, then drilling the holes and getting it fitted properly, then running the fuel line and fuel pump, then running the wires for the thermostat and power cables is very time consuming!

And, Ottawa and area is having a bit of a cold spell which makes it not as enjoyable to be working outside.

I've got the unit itself mounted to the floor. And I was able to use the existing gasoline fuel line that used to run the generator, to feed the furnace. The only downside to that is that the fuel tank needs to be over 1/2 full in order to suck fuel from the tank. It was sitting at about 3/8 and that wasn't enough.

So the fuel line is done, except for the section from the pump to the furnace itself. I had that done, but I was rushing at the end of the day and cut it two inches too short! Dummy. But, I have enough left over to do it properly. Just have to crawl back under there again today!

And, I ran the wires for the thermostat. Of course they are in the interior, and hiding the wire inside the walls was a bit of a job, but I'm happy with the result.

The instructions say that the power cable needs to be installed directly at the battery, and can't be tapped into any other 12 volt line. The supplied cable ends aren't heavy duty enough, so I'll have to go buy some today.

Out with the old.

And in with the new.
Furnace mounted in place.
It looks so small compared to the old thing I took out.

Meanwhile, our new 12 volt compressor refrigerator showed up at the supplier in Ottawa, and we had to go pick it up. We thought it would fit in our son's car with the trunk left open, so we drove down to get it, only to find that it would not fit! So, back to Manotick to pick up Igor and drive him all the way into town. That enabled me to top up the fuel tank so that at least I will be able to test the furnace, hopefully later today.

The refrigerator should be a simpler job! And, I should be able to use the 12 volt wiring from the old furnace to run the fridge. It looks like it's at least 14 gauge (and possibly 12 gauge) which the manual says is good for an 8' run, so that should work fine.

And, we got all of our flights changed around. Now leaving Ottawa on November 11th at 6:00am! One of the benefits is that this is now a direct flight from Ottawa to Cancun, so no need to connect in Toronto.
