We have heat!

It was quite a few hours of work, but Igor's gasoline heater installation is finally finished!

Drilling holes through the van floor, running the wires for the thermostat inside wall panels, tapping into the fuel line and running the line to the new fuel pump, and hooking it up to the heater, then running the cables directly to the battery was all more time consuming than I thought it would have been.

The installation manual is 42 pages long.

The very first page, it states...
  • Installation of this product should be carried out only by trained and certified professionals.
  • Almost all DIY installations fail to start or fail within first few months of operation.

  • All failures are preventable and are a result of people not reading or following the instructions.
So, I was pretty methodical about making sure that I was following the instructions. When it came time to actually fire it up, I think I was a little bit nervous that maybe it wasn't going to work!

First, I had to learn how to operate the thermostat! It's a little mini computer itself. Once I figured it out, I had use it to prime the pump. It took a while, but eventually I saw the fuel started coming out the end of the line. Then I could connect the line to the unit itself.

Then I turned it on.

The fan came on right away. It has 7 different fan and heating settings. At first, I let it run on the highest setting. I put my hand in front of the blower outlet and waited to see if I could feel any warm air. And I waited. And I waited. After about a minute and a half, I heard some noise inside the unit, and the air started to warm. It was actually kind of exciting!

After another couple of minutes, it was actually pumping out HOT air. And Igor's interior isn't very big. This little furnace won't have to work very hard to keep us warm.

Then I turned it down to its lowest setting just to play with it and see how it worked. I think for the most part, the lowest setting will be all we will need to use.

So happy that it seems to be working as it should.

It was Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, and we went to my mother's building and had dinner with my older sister Elaine and my nephew Marshal (my younger sister Alison's son) and my mom Elspeth.

Elaine, Marshal, Ruth, Elspeth, Kevin.

Dinner was a stuffed turkey roll.
It was actually really good!

Today, we say goodbye to friends Barbara and John (thanks for letting us work on Igor in your driveway!) and move Igor back to the parking lot at my mom's building where we will stay until Saturday.

  1. Seven settings will come in handy
A small area, some nights you just want to take the chill out. That's an issue with our Heater Buddy, only two settings. Too low or too high.

    1. Yes, seven setting will definitely come in handy.

As you said it is a small area so it really doesn't take long to warm it up but it also cools off quickly in cold weather if you turn the furnace off. Right now we are needing heat and it more than to take the chill off, lol. Hopefully there won't be a lot of days where we will need it but it is nice to know that we have it.

We had half thought of the Mr. Buddy Heater but honestly there was just no room to place it anywhere plus we were trying to get away from using more propane. We do like the fact that you don't need electricity for the Mr. Buddy Heater though.
