Cancun beach time, and flight to Reynosa

We hung out at Carmen's apartment for the morning, and then took the local bus from there to the hotel zone where she works as a property manager, renting out condos to vacationers.

It cost 12 pesos ($0.80 CAD, $0.58 USD) each for the half hour ride.

On the local bus.
Notice the fake plastic chicken hanging!

We dropped our things off in Carmen's office, and went for a walk on the beach...

It was baking hot!

Ruth went in the water for a couple of minutes.

We found a spot in the shade and watched the world go by for a while.

Sitting watching the waves roll in.

We walked up to this public beach where there are no hotels.

There was an RV parked there.

It has Brazil licence plates.

There are a lot of iguanas at the public beach.

I should clarify that all of the beaches in Mexico are public. However, access to the beach through private property is often difficult. So in this case, there are a lot of hotels on the beach strip where it is difficult to access the beach unless going through a hotel property, and so there is one section where all can access the beach through public property... that is what they call "the public beach".

We went and looked at one of the units that Carmen has for rent.
It does have a beautiful view of the beach!

And the reason we went and looked at one of the rental units is because we will be returning to Cancun in December. We've booked our daughter Lindsey and grandkids Cameron and Sadie to join us here from December 17-24.

We haven't yet decided on the accommodation, but we have booked the flights for them. We will not be driving Igor to Cancun, but we will fly or take the bus from where ever we happen to be at the time.

Ruth and Carmen. We took Carmen out for lunch at a fish taco place.

Carmen, Ruth, and Kevin.

From there, we said goodbye to Carmen and ordered an Uber to take us to the airport. From her place, it was a 15 minute ride, and cost 230 pesos ($15.60 CAD, $11.20 USD). It was just a local flight from Cancun to Reynosa, so no need to get there way in advance. It was quick getting through security, and then we had an hour wait to board our flight.

This flight was with VivaAerobus, a Mexican discount airline. Cost was 3,450 pesos ($235 CAD, $168 USD) each.

We took off right on time, and arrived in Reynosa a few minutes early. It was almost a two hour flight.

Reynosa is just a small airport, but we were still surprised that there weren't many taxis around. Uber works here, but the system said there were no drivers in the area. We only had to go 4.5 kms (under 3 miles), but it cost 200 pesos ($13.60 CAD, $9.70 USD).

I booked us in at the airport City Express Hotel, for 2,460 pesos ($166 CAD, $120 USD). I thought it was a bit pricey for Reynosa, but there weren't many other options. And, the location was perfect, only 5 kms (3 miles) from the border crossing where we will meet Bjorn, Freya, and Igor Wednesday morning.

While we were waiting for a taxi, we noticed this Tesla Cyber Truck.
First time we've seen one.

We went to the hotel restaurant and had a very mediocre caesar salad shared between us. Buffet breakfast is included, so we can fill our stomachs up before we leave in the morning.

So, here's hoping things go smoothly tomorrow morning, and we hope to arrive at friends Chris and Juan's place sometime around the lunch hour!

  1. Gotta be a narco truck. Hope things are smooth on getting to Monterey!

  2. That is possible for sure but it could but there are also a lot of rich Mexicans that aren't connected to the cartels or it could be someone from Texas.

We got to our friend's place south of Monterrey without any issues. It was a great day!
