Because the card machine wasn't working properly at the store, I had a look at Amazon Mexico and found an identical laptop that suited my purposes, and I ordered it to have it delivered to the hotel campground at our next planned stop in Matehuala.
I processed the order, but a while later I received an email from Amazon Mexico saying that their system detected "unusual activity" on my account and that they were temporarily suspending my account. They asked me to log in and upload a document to confirm my payment information. They would get back to me within 24 hours.
I thought I did that properly, but the next day I received another email saying that after reviewing my information they have determined it was necessary to close my account! All pending orders have been cancelled, and they will not respond to further emails regarding this matter.
Huh!!??
This also meant that I couldn't access either of my Amazon Canada or Amazon US accounts either. When I tried, it said that I had to fix another country Amazon website first. And, it also meant we can't access our Amazon affiliate account that we use to earn income either.
Chris managed to get us a contact phone number for Amazon US, and I actually got through to a human being. I explained the problem, and she has escalated the situation to "the team" who will be able to fix it. She said to expect another email within 24 hours.
And so now all I can do is wait. In the meantime, I still don't have a laptop!
Hopefully part 3 of this story turns out better!
We had a project to do with Chris and Juan's trailer. They want to sell it, but the decals are all faded and cracked. He had ordered new ones, but had never got around to installing them. So Bjorn and I volunteered to give him a hand. They didn't fit exactly, but they would be better than before.
Installing decals.
Chris, Kevin, Bjorn, Freya, Juan.
We installed the larger red one.
You can see the difference between that and the original smaller one.
Kevin and Chris.
Bjorn, doing some trimming.
One side finished.
Other side finished.
After that, we walked to a buffet style restaurant on the other side of the main highway.
The main highway looking north towards Monterrey.
We left there stuffed because it was all you can eat. Needless to say, we only needed snacks for dinner.
We sat around and solved more world problems in the evening.
Juan, Chris, Ruth, Freya, and Bjorn.
Bjorn and Freya have started their trip back to Belgium this morning. Chris and Juan have taken them into Monterrey where they will catch a bus that will take them up to Laredo, Texas. They'll walk across the border, where they have a car rental booked that they will drive one way to Houston, and then their flight to Belgium departs tomorrow. Back to work on Wednesday!
It was great following them on their holiday through the US with Igor. They've now spent more time in Igor than we have! But that's fine. We'll soon surpass that. We've decided to spend one more night here with Chris and Juan before heading further south. We want to meet friends in Mexico City by the 28th, so we need to get going soon since we don't like long driving days.
Oh jeez, sorry to hear about the problems with Amazon. That is so crazy. I have my own beef with them, as they detected "unusual activity" (they like that term) with my reviews and removed all my past reviews as well as blocking me from reviewing any future orders. We order from Amazon very frequently, since we live in a rural area not close to a lot of shopping, so it's their loss not letting me review the many things I buy! I tried emailing the address the email suggested to find out why I was blocked and see if I could get the block lifted, but at least 3-4 emails I sent went unanswered, so I finally just gave up. This is one thing I really hate about super large companies. Hope your account issue gets resolved very soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily, although it sounds like you are having some issues with Amazon yourself but it also sounds like you can still access your account and order stuff which we can't do.
DeleteAt least Kevin has been able to contact them by phone, otherwise I am not sure how we could get his account fixed. Having said that, they said we should hear from them in 24 hours and we are past that timeline and still haven't heard from them. :-(
