Crazy stuff!

Thursday afternoon we went for a walk along the road north of here that follows the shoreline towards Colorines.

There is a big gated community on the hill and we wondered if they would let us in to go for a walk around.

Things we saw along the way...

Bicycle made of sticks.

The local church is decorated for Guadalupe Day, which was yesterday, December 12th.

Poinsettias grow naturally here in Mexico, and can become quite large.

They are known locally as Nochebuena.

Nice view looking back at the marinas.

That's a big gate at the gated community!

The guard said that we couldn't go up the hill (where we wanted to go), but we could continue a short way to the left after the gate.

Richie Rich homes up on the hill.

We did come to a couple of large homes with views, and one was a new one under construction, and about half built. The gate was ajar, so I opened it and yelled for someone, but didn't get an answer. We went in far enough to get this view...

Nice view of the lake!

We got back to the marina, and our host Chago asked if we were going to the fiesta in San Gaspar. He had invited us to the early morning fiesta at the church many years ago, and while it was interesting, I wasn't sure if I was interested on going again.

We decided to go around 7:30pm, figuring we would only be there for an hour or so.

But it turned out this was more like a local fair, with some amusement park rides for the kids, and a few food stands and music. It was actually kind of fun, plus they were preparing for one of those whacko fireworks displays that we have seen a couple of times in the past, and they are always fun!

This is called a "castillo" or castle fireworks frame and the whole thing lights up with fireworks!

The band playing.

Notice the pole on the right.

I took some videos for you... turn your volume up...

The band.

Crazy stuff.

Climb a greasy pole?

Eventually, they did get the prizes at the top of the pole. But it took three guys climbing on each others backs to reach the top! What a circus!

Unfortunately, we didn't stay long enough to see the best part. It was already 10:30pm, and there was a  band playing and it seemed like it might be another hour or two, and we were a bit chilly because we hadn't thought we were going to be there that long so we weren't dressed for it. And then when we got back to Igor, it seemed the music stopped not long afterwards. Oh well!
