The entire central area is pay parking on the street, and you have to pay at a machine and then leave the slip of paper on your dash that displays the time that your parking expires.
Lots of spaces available though, and we had no problem finding a spot. But this being Mexico, the pay machine nearest us didn't work. So I had to walk a block and a half to the next one. As I was walking along, I noticed that the majority of cars did not have any kind of ticket displayed on the dash. I'm guessing that the locals know that nobody ever checks.
Anyhow, we paid our 50 pesos ($3.50 CAD, $2.50 USD) for five hours just to be on the safe side.
Sadie, Ruth, Kevin, and Cameron at the big tree in Playa del Carmen.
These places are really waterfront!
Cameron loves the tourist shops!
We found ourselves a spot on the beach and it didn't take long for the kids to get in the water. They are used to the chilly ocean waters on the coast of Nova Scotia, so this was much warmer!
Into the water.
A bit of a cloudy day.
Still, there were quite a few people on the beach.
And we did get some sunny breaks.
Lindsey, Sadie, and Ruth.
We walked along the beach for a while, then back up onto the road and to a local municipal market, but it wasn't that good, we then found a place to have some lunch, then walked back to the car.
Then to a big Soriana grocery store to pick up a few things for our excursion today. We are headed to the Coba archeological ruins. Ruth and I have been there before, and because it's a bit remote, there are far fewer tourists compared to the much more popular Chichen Itza ruins.
About an hour and a half drive each way, so we better get going so we beat the rest of the tourists!
