What's in the plans for 2025...?

Obviously, we are starting 2025 in Valle de Bravo, Mexico.

But on January 2nd, we are heading west towards the Pacific Coast. It will probably take us the full month of January to get there, because we have a stopover planned at Valle de Juarez... one of our other favorite places in Mexico!

One of my long time friends will be in Puerto Vallarta the first week of February, so we hope to be able to see him there.

Then we'll head to Etzatlan for another week. 

We're essentially planning a loop that will take us back into the state of San Luis Potosi. There's a lot we want to see in that area, most of which we've never seen before. Lots of waterfalls and hiking opportunities!

Here's a look at the approximate route we have planned.

The yellow dot is Valle de Bravo, where we are right now. We came down from Reynosa at the U.S. border in November, and headed pretty much directly south. From the yellow dot, we will head west to the coast, then loop back around to San Luis Potosi. Then to Veracruz and on to Chetumal. 

That should take us between 4-5 months. Our six month Mexico visitor visa will expire May 12th, so we'll have to either get into Belize by then, or make some kind of trip outside the country by air, then re-enter and get another six months. 

We are also well aware of the weather. The Central American countries will be hot and rainy in the summer. This is going to be a big question mark for us, because we may end up parking Igor somewhere secure, doing some senior backpacking in another country, and flying back at the end of September to continue the journey south.

Fortunately, we are not on any sort of time schedule. The whole idea with this trip is to stay at places as long as we like, and enjoy an unhurried trip. 

So, while we are excited to get into Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama... it may not happen for quite a few months yet! There are some long distance hikes we want to do in Guatemala. Long time readers will remember when we hiked the Guatemala highlands back in 2013, and we'd like to do some other hikes in Guatemala.

So, we will start the year in Valle de Bravo... but we have zero idea of where we will end it. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe Nicaragua. I'll have to remember to check back here a year from now and see how close my guess was! 

And in between, who knows?? July and August is a great time to visit Sri Lanka, which has been on our radar for a long time. And, we'll likely be back in Canada for the month of September.
