Arrived at a new RV Park

It was a bit of a long drive for us. Not so much distance wise, but we took a lot of back roads and you don't get anywhere very fast that way in Mexico... but, it is the most interesting way for sure.

We got a bit of a late start and didn't get out of Yuriria until 10:30am. Originally, I was thinking that we were going to stop somewhere along the way. There weren't a lot of options though.

Topped up the fuel tank on the outskirts of Yuriria, then carried on west through the towns of Puruandiro and Zinaparo before deciding to do the final section on the toll highway.

Here are some photos of the drive...

Leaving the parking lot, we had to follow this very narrow road out of town.

There's always something interesting going on in Mexico!

Very little traffic on the back roads.

We crossed from the state of Guanajuato into the state of Michoacan.
And then into the state of Jalisco.

This section of road was a little rough!

We pulled off and onto this dirt road to have lunch.

This road actually led up to a "hiking area" according to google maps. I walked a half a km up the road, and it would have been fine for Igor, and it might have even been suitable for an overnight... but there were a lot of house flies. In fact after having lunch, it took a lot of time to get rid of them. This morning, there are still one or two buzzing around, despite the fly swatter getting a good workout when we arrived at the campground.

Scenery along the way.

It was around this time we decided to do the final 50 kms (30 miles) or so on the toll highway. We are lucky that Igor pays the same price as a car. When we had Sherman, we had to pay the same price as a bus because of the dual rear wheels.

We drove about 25 kms before we hit the toll booth, and there was a long lineup of traffic going through. It took almost a half an hour to get up to the booth. The girl wasn't very cheerful, and seemed like she purposely took a long time to do the transaction. We think there was some kind of labor action going on to inconvenience the public. Cost was 127 pesos ($9 CAD, $6.25 USD).

Interesting scenery.

The road north from the La Barca exit was in absolutely terrible condition. Potholes galore... and some of them were really big craters. That last section was pretty slow going. Arrived at Charly's RV Park just before 4:30pm.

Charly's RV Park opened two years ago during Covid. The owners are a European couple from Austria and Lichtenstein. Denise welcomed us and showed us around. They have a nice Swiss restaurant, but it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

There are two other rigs here, both with German license plates. Our friends Aron and Owenita, and Mona and Roger are en route, and supposed to arrive after lunch today.
