Our route took us up and around the big port city of Manzanillo. It's a huge shipping port, and the busiest container port in Mexico.
We saw thousands of shipping containers...
Approaching Manzanillo from the south is a big rail yard.
Hundreds (thousands?) of shipping containers.
It was very hazy around Manzanillo.
After Manzanillo, we re-entered the state of Jalisco.
Bananas and palm trees.
Scenery along the way.
That's a load of bananas!
The beach at Melaque.
We arrived at Melaque at around noon, and stopped at the (very small) Bodega Aurrera grocery store for the sole purpose of stocking up on my beer supply. They sell a six pack of Carta Blanca for 61 pesos ($4.30 CAD, $3 USD). Can't beat that!
Then we found a side street to park on and wandered down to the Lagunas del Tule RV Park. This is the place we stayed with the RV caravans a couple of times. It's a nice enough park, but it's 500 pesos ($35.25 CAD, $24.50 USD) per night now, and when we're by ourselves we don't need anything like that. Besides, it's easy to find free street parking here in Melaque.
The rear section of the RV Park was totally empty.
They have a nice quiet beach there.
The front part of the RV Park is quite busy, many of whom will stay all season.
We were in contact with Brad and Denise, a couple we know from our time managing Cabri Regional Park in Saskatchewan.
They stay here for three months every winter, and have an apartment at the far west end of the beach. So we drove over there and found a nice quiet place in the shade to park Igor on the street.
They were having some beach time with friends, so we met them down there.
Lots of conversation catching up on things, and we met a few other people we knew from the Cabri region as well. I forgot to get photos!
We went for dinner with them to a local taco place.
Just as we were finishing dinner, a huge flock of birds came and landed on the wires outside the taco place. Apparently they arrive every night at about 7:00pm. Strange!
Birds on a wire.
Not sure what's on the schedule today. I guess we'll do some more wandering around town.
Oh... some people had asked our opinion of Melaque...
We've only been here twice before, and both times it was only for a couple of days. Once in 2018, and once in 2011. So it's really difficult for us to have perspective.
Really, other than a few new buildings and a couple of boutique style modern hotels, we don't see a whole lot of difference. And, we much prefer the west end of the town compared to the other end where the big RV park is located.
It's not really our kind of place to spend any length of time, but we feel that way about the entire coastline. We're just not beach people.
