Extended our portable solar panel

We went for a walk yesterday. We had seen a pathway that led alongside a river here in Puerto Vallarta, and coincidentally it led by a store where I had been told I could buy the cable for our portable solar panel.

So we went there, and then continued on to a laptop repair place.

Made it to the electronics store. They seemed to specialize in car audio installations. I was looking for 8 meters (25') of wire that I could use to extend our portable solar panel. We have rooftop panels as well, but in hot climates the idea of course is to be able to park in the shade where the rooftop panels won't do much good. So with an extension cable we can park in the shade, and be able to put the portable panel in the sun.

I had tried ordering an extension cable from Amazon that was purposely made. But it was going to take three weeks to arrive, and we haven't had very consistent luck with deliveries in the past. 

So I bought 12 gauge cable which is heavier duty than the one that was purposely made. And I spliced it into the original cable. Tried it out, and it works perfectly. It wasn't cheap, at just over 500 pesos ($35 CAD, $24 USD), but that's what the other cable was going to cost anyhow.

Then we stopped at a laptop repair place and spoke to them. We didn't have the laptops with us of course, but he might be interested in buying the old ones. I still have my old one as well.

Not much on the agenda today. Maybe we'll go for a walk down to the malecon.
