He was looking a little dusty too, so yesterday morning I got up the ambition to get him cleaned up!
There... that's better!
All cleaned up!
He's looking pretty good for a 32 year old rig!
Yesterday was the start of Carnival week here in Etzatlan. There was supposed to be a parade in town starting at 7:00pm, so we walked into town to find somewhere to have dinner, and then take in the parade.
The central plaza is all decorated.
We knew of a good restaurant that is also very reasonably priced. We both had the enchiladas verde, one of our favorite meals in Mexico. They are normally stuffed with chicken, but we think this dish was stuffed with pork. Which was totally fine. They were delicious and only 80 pesos ($5.65 CAD, $3.90 USD) per plate for 4 enchiladas.
A bit of a blurry ussie in the restaurant.
Echiladas and a Pacifico beer... my favorites!
Total bill including a beer, a sangria, and a tip was 250 pesos ($17.60 CAD, $12.20 USD).
We got outside just in time to watch the 7:00pm parade go by at 8:00pm. We've been to enough of these events in Mexico to know that these things NEVER start on time.
Lined up to watch the parade.
Bonnie, our host here at the campground, had explained that one of the things they do here on the first night of carnival is take a decorated coffin and a hearse and advertise all the bad things some people here in town have done over the past year. Some can be serious, but some can be done in fun and in a joking manner.
We don't know the reasoning, but behind the coffin followed about 8 guys dressed up as women. And then a band. And that was it... that was the parade!
I took a video for you... turn up your volume...
Guys on horses.
The church all lit up.
Carrying the coffin up to the stage.
These guys were giving out free alcoholic punch.
One of the reasons we love Mexico. As we wandered around the plaza we noticed how many things going on that would require permits and regulations if this fiesta was going on in Canada. We've often said that Canada has far too many rules. And admittedly, sometimes Mexico doesn't have enough. But we like this way better.
Lots of entertainment... all free.
The kiosko in the middle of the plaza is well decorated.
Lots of fun. We were home by 10:30pm or so.
Local market day here in Etzatlan, so we are off to buy some fruits and veggies!

Great deal on a 15.6" Monitor.
And in Canada...
