So when we got a last minute invitation to lunch, it wasn't a tough decision to hang around!
We've been following a family who have been traveling South America. They started out over three years ago when they entered Mexico, and at the time we gave them a lot of tips for their time in Mexico. We had never met them though.
Eric, Brittany, and their 8 year old son Caspian run a website over at Hourless Life where they detail their planned around the world journey.
They had left their vehicle in Uruguay prior to shipping it to South Africa, and are temporarily in Mexico. They had been in Mexico City, and Ruth had commented on their facebook page that we just missed them. It turned out they had been on a five hour bus ride... to Guanajuato!
So we made plans to meet for lunch!
Eric, Brittany, Caspian, Ruth, and Kevin.
No shortage of things to talk about, that's for sure! We could have probably spent all afternoon chatting, Really nice family, and young Caspian at 8 years old is such a pleasure. Certainly wise beyond his years, he was born into a life of full time travel and doesn't know anything else.
But, he is still an 8 year old kid, doing what kids do!
So glad we were able to meet up at the last minute. Who knows where we will see them again somewhere else in the world!
But, we really had to get going. Our week in Guanajuato was great (thanks Doug!) but we were needing a change of scenery.
We were originally going to drive directly to Pinal de Amoles, but we decided to break up the drive. The main reason was that Pinal de Amoles could be busier on the weekends, so it would be better to arrive on Monday.
Besides, we have no problem spending a day or two in Dolores Hidalgo.
We got packed up, and hit the road through the hills. Guanajuato is at about 6,200', but we would be heading up to about 8,500' before dropping back down to Dolores Hidalgo.
Interesting church along the way.
View looking back at Guanajuato.
Scenery along the way.
We didn't get very far! We came to a restaurant that was listed with camping on iOverlander and decided to stay there for the night. There were a few walking trails and some nice views.
This is the place!
Igor's spot for the night.
There's also a restaurant that gets really good reviews, but holy cow we've been eating out a lot lately!

We got parked up and went for a walk.
Ruth, and the view.
This guy also has a nice view!
Looking down on the road we will take today.
Funny cactus.
Another cactus.
Me, out for a walk.
Beautiful!
Slept like a rock last night. Totally quiet!
This morning, we make our way another 35 kms (22 miles) to Dolores Hidalgo. Gotta love short driving days!
