Another steep hike

We're sure getting our exercise up here in the mountains!

We set off yesterday to try to find a waterfall, but it turned out that it's on private property and they charge 100 pesos ($7 CAD, $5 USD) per person to get in. So we took another route that turned out to be pretty steep.

We set off at just before 11:00am, and the skies were fairly clear.

Gorgeous scenery in the Sierra Gorda mountains.

The only way to get to some of the homes back here is by foot... or horseback!

Scenery along the way.

Beautiful!

The trail was very steep.

As I said yesterday, we think some of these trails have been here for centuries.

Obstacle up ahead!

Me on the trail.

Ruth, trying to say hello to the cow.

Pretty picture by a tiny waterfall.

Another stream flowing nearby.

Flowers.

We ended up doing about 8 kms (5 miles), but with a lot of climbing back out!

Unfortunately we have to move on today. There is nowhere to get laundry done up here, and we're both in need of showers. We're headed down to Jalpan de Serra where there is apparently a nice campground.

Only problem is, there is a heat wave on the way. It's supposed to reach 35C (95F) there on Sunday!

  1. Gorgeous hike! Too bad you have to leave, but laundry and needed showers would drive me away as well. At least you got to enjoy the area, which looks like some perfect solitude time.

    1. It really was a beautiful hike and we are so glad that we went early in the day because by the time we had climbed back up and back into town you could see that the fog was already starting to make it's way over the mountains again and the views weren't nearly so clear.
If we could have found a place for showers and laundry up there we might have stayed longer but we just couldn't find anything that was going to work, especially for the laundry.
I am sure that we will find some more places where we can enjoy some solitude and some beautiful scenery as we move on.
