More flight tickets bought!

I love buying flight tickets! Planning the trip is half the fun!

As you already know, we are booked to fly from Mexico City to Madrid, Spain on the evening of May 5th. But we only wanted to stay in Spain for a month or so while waiting for Scotland to warm up a little bit!

I hadn't even looked to see how we were going to get from Spain to Scotland, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the easyJet flies direct from Madrid to Edinburgh. And, they had a pretty cheap flight scheduled for June 4th. A quick discussion with Ruth and I went ahead and booked it.

Including our carry on bags, the total came to £87.98 ($160 CAD, $110 USD) per person for the two hour and fifty minute flight.

Not bad, plus the airline is easyJet which is definitely our preference since they treated us so well when our flight was late when we flew from Paris to Bristol last year.

I only made one mistake. The flight time is not great. It arrives Edinburgh at 11:30pm. Normally, that's not a problem, and we just try to find cheap accommodation near the airport for a night. Well, it turns out that Edinburgh accommodation prices are not cheap! At first glance, the cheapest airport hotel was £130 ($237 CAD, $165 USD) per night!

I ended up finding a shared Airbnb in between the airport and the city and I contacted the host and asked if it was okay if we arrived after midnight. She said "of course"! She was really efficient with communications and the place got great reviews, so we ended up booking a three night stay for £61 ($110 CAD, $77 USD) per night.

So, we've got airfares booked, and accommodation booked in both Madrid and Edinburgh. Car rentals are expensive, but a car is going to be necessary. I've got some initial bookings made, but can cancel for free if a better deal comes along.

And, we've got a house sitting interview this morning for a 12 night stay in Scotland. Car rental will be pricey, but we're planning on getting free accommodation through house sitting, so that will offset it.

Speaking of expenses, I posted our February expense report last night. You can read it here... https://www.travelwithkevinandruth.com/2025/02/february-expenses-pretty-good-except.html

Okay, back to the present.

Yesterday was market day so we went into town to buy our weekly supply of fruits and veggies.

Lots of clothing at this market.

Candies and nuts.

This lady had great looking broccoli!

Always head to the busiest stand.
The locals know which fruit and veggie stand has the best prices.

Uncooked pork belly fat.
This is the same stuff they use to make chicharrón.

The deep fried unhealthy snacks guys!

That's a big bull!

That's a big head of broccoli!
For only 25 pesos ($1.75 CAD, $1.25 USD).

They also had cantaloupes for 20 pesos each, or 3 for 50 pesos. We don't have room to buy three of them! But we did buy one.

And in Canada...

  1. We got a good car deal with Turo when we did a 6 month tour of UK, Scotland & Ireland.

    1. Kevin has already looked at Turo for Scotland but didn't find a decent deal but he will continue to keep his eyes open on that site because we can cancel the car rental we have already booked with no penally up to a certain date. Unfortunately Turo doesn't work in Spain.
