It was supposed to start at 10:00am. But we know how things work in Mexico. So we set out from the campground at around 10:20am and walked downtown.
As we got into town it seemed a little odd... like there weren't very many people around. But when we got closer to the center, we realized that it was because everyone was lining the street waiting for the parade to start.
We found a spot at about 10:45am, but the 10:00am parade didn't start until 11:20am!
Lots of people out waiting for the parade to start.
Trinket sellers.
Finally seeing some action.
The first of many parade queens.
Lots of music.
Pretty girls on horseback.
Another parade queen.
Fancy Cadillac.
It was funny because it belongs to a local funeral parlor!
Lots of school groups in the parade.
Smile and wave.
Another school group.
Carnaval costumes.
This was different.
The guy inside was on stilts.
More music.
Fancy dress costumes from other Mexican states.
Another parade queen!
More fancy costumes.
And horses... lots of horses!
Don't slip!
That's a big bull!
Little guy on a horse.
The end.
That was fun!
But we had to get back to the campground because we were being picked up for lunch by a local expat guy... Jim from Missouri, and his friend Sondra from Montana.
Really good seafood restaurant by the lake!
Pretty view from our table.
Ruth had garlic shrimp.
And I had shrimp tacos.
White pelicans.
Sondra, Jim, and Kevin.
What a great last day we had.
Today we are heading east towards San Miguel de Allende. It's only about a six hour drive, but it's going to take us five days to get there! First stop today is a forest near Guadalajara.

Decent deal on this 1TB External Hard Drive.
And in Canada...
Great parade - reminds me of a couple we attended in San Pedro, Belize (though with many fewer horses, haha). The seafood looked wonderful - my favorite food.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun parade, for a small town they do a great job on it. This is a real farming/agricultural of area, I guess that is why they had so many horses.
DeleteThe seafood was delicious and very inexpensive, my medium order of garlic shrimp which was quite large was only 100 pesos ($6.95 CAD, $4,80 USD). It is hard to go wrong and the view was really pretty too.
Looks like that was fun! The food looks great as well. I can't wait to hear about the forest in Guadalajara area.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun parade but then most parades in Mexico are. And yes, the food was delicious and inexpensive.
DeleteSo far we really like it here, enough that we are going to stay a second night.
