On to Guanajuato

It was only an hour and a half drive from San Miguel de Allende to Guanajuato, so we were in no rush. Eventually, we got ourselves packed up and made a stop for fuel and groceries before leaving town.

Igor's tank was pretty empty, in fact it was probably the lowest we've had it. The 132 liter tank took 111 liters! Fuel is 23.99 pesos per liter, so it cost 2,664 pesos ($192 CAD, $134 USD) to fill him up.

But, that will do us well into next month.

At the Bodega Aurrera grocery store, we once again checked with customer service for Ruth's phone, but it didn't turn up. We'll pick her up a cheap local one here sometime over the next couple of days.

There are only two official RV park areas for Guanajuato City. One is 14 kms outside the city, and the other is right in the city. It's located up some twisty windy roads, and is a little difficult to access. Every time we've been to Guanajuato we have been with Sherman, our 28' motorhome and that's pushing the boundaries of what is suitable to stay at the one in town, so we've had to stay outside the city.

But Igor is smaller and more maneuverable, so this time we made our way up to the one in the city. It's located overlooking part of town, so it's nice to have a view of the colorful buildings.

We contacted our friend Doug who lives in Guanajuato to let him know we had arrived.

Doug is a long time blog reader, and we originally met him February 2015 in Arizona, and then he came to visit us in August 2017 in Saskatchewan. That was almost eight years ago, and we haven't seen him since.

At the time, he was living and traveling full time in his 5th wheel camper. But due to following our travels in Mexico, he decided to move to Guanajuato three years ago.

He lives right in the center, and it's about a 20 minute walk from where we are parked. So we walked down to say hi.

A church we walked past.

Great to see him again, and his nice apartment here in the city. We sat and got caught up on things, and he's going to come over this morning and help me install Igor's new solar panels. I had ordered them from Amazon U.S. and had them delivered to his place.

We're looking forward to spending a week here.
