Not really our style to hang out in places like this, but it was a part of Mexico City that we had never been to.
Gotta start off the day with the included breakfast at our hotel...
Hotel breakfast... not bad!
It was a 6 km walk one way to the start of the 3 km walking tour. So we knew this was going to be at least an 18 km (11 mile) day.
We like this old church that we walk by every day.
Different angle.
Busy Mexico City!
Lots of interesting architecture.
A flower shop that we walked by.
Another interesting building.
There's always something interesting to see in Mexico!
Check out the stuffed orangutan on top at the front.
Bah! Too funny!
There are a lot of parks in Mexico City.
Murals at an underpass.
Somebody call the landscaper!
Ruth and Catrina.
We walked along the main drag in the Polanco area, but we really weren't thrilled. At the end of the walk, there is a shopping mall filled with very expensive shops, and one of them was a liquor store that happened to have a pricey bottle of tequila that I had had a taste of a few months back. I wanted to bring a bottle to my guys weekend away in September.
The expensive shopping mall.
The mall has a concierge service.
Ruth was looking for a pair of walking shoes.
But she wasn't about to pay 5,000 pesos ($354 CAD, $246 USD).
Scenery along the way.
This old Beetle was in great shape!
Ruth did end up buying a pair of walking shoes, but they were only 1,200 pesos ($85 CAD, $59 USD). Good thing too, because the sandals she was wearing ended up breaking a strap, and she had to use her new shoes!
Statue of Abraham Lincoln.
I looked up the story behind this...
The statue was a gift from the United States to Mexico, presented by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966. The statue represents the shared democratic values and historical ties between the two nations.
More scenery along the way.
Statue of Don Pelayo, Primer Rey De Asturias. (First King of Asturias, a region in Spain).
We met up with our friends Dave and Maggie again, and went and had a nice drink at a patio, and I also passed him my expensive bottle of tequila and he is going to bring it back to Canada for me so that we can share it with my buddies in September.
Kevin, Dave, Maggie, and Ruth.
More interesting architecture.
What a lot of walking we did... our feet were dead! The step counter on my phone reads 25,144.
Today, we head to the area of Coyoacan.

Under Cabinet Rechargeable LED Lights 2 Pack Great deal.
And in Canada...
I hope with all this unrest between the Inited States and Mexico they don’t take down the statue of Abe Lincoln.. a
ReplyDeleteAlso what is the name of the walking app and do you like it ..
We doubt that will happen but we can't say that it wouldn't happen either, we are living in some crazy times at the moment.
DeleteThe app is called GPSmyCity. We can't give our honest opinion on it yet.we have only used it twice and both tours weren't in the more popular parts of the city. We weren't very impressed with the one we did in the Polanco neighbourhood though. We will try using it in other cities and see how that goes.
Glad you were able to get all that walking in.
ReplyDeleteThose expensive malls have us running away.
Stay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
We always seem to do a ton of walking when we are in big cities . We think it is the best way to see the city, you always see notice so much more this way.
DeleteWe find these expensive malls interesting to visit but it is rare that we would ever buy anything in one, other than this time when Kevin found the tequila that he wanted to buy for his guy's weekend away in September. The price was pretty much the same as what the price was in the small farming town that we like to visit.
Looks like a great day. Other than the earthquake threat and bad air quality some of the time, I would love to live in Mexico City. So many great restaurants, parks, cultural events...a wonderful city.
ReplyDeleteWe tend to agree with you, Mexico City would definitely be an interesting city to live in but I know that we never would live here. The air quality would bother us more than the threat of an earthquake would.
