Views of Guanajuato

We set out mid morning to walk along the Panoramica... a road that circles through the hills above Guanajuato. If you did the whole thing, it would be about 9 kms (5.5 miles) one way.

As the name of the road implies, there are a lot of scenic views above the city.

Guanajuato.

Guanajuato started out because of the rich silver deposits and there are still some mines operating in the area. And there are a lot of remains of past mining operations and a lot of them are located along the Panoramica route.

Nice house along the way.

We went up to see the church at the Mellado district.

Unfortunately it was closed.

Old mining equipment.

Another view.

More old mining equipment.

And more views.

Houses of Guanajuato.

More mining structures.

Mining ruins.

More remains.

One of the very few flat spots in Guanajuato.

We ended up doing about 5 kms (3 miles) while cutting through part of town to get back to Igor so that we wouldn't have to retrace our steps.

This cat lives here at the campground complex.
He's really friendly and likes to hop into Igor to visit us when we have the door open.

In the evening, we walked down to visit Doug. There is a place just around the corner from him that does really good tamales on Tuesday evenings, so we popped over there to get some for takeaway. We also met Doug's friend John and he joined us for dinner and conversation.

The tamale place is busy... apparently there is always a lineup.

The menu.

Doug has an interesting map of Guanajuato.
There is not much of a grid road design!

Yummy tamales!

John is headed over to Europe in June, and of course we were talking about travel. He'll be in Romania in July... maybe we'll see him there. We still don't have any firm plans for July and August, but we would love to return to Romania!

And in Canada...

Great deal on this highly rated Smart Watch.

  1. Still like the vivid colours of the towns.
It is sad looking back at our past, shows how destructive we are to the earth.
    Stay Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  2. Yum, tamales! Our last year's (or the year before) Mexico calendar had a photo of the colorful houses of Guanajuato. I love how the bright yellow one stands out. A couple more houses there should use that color!
