So what did we do yesterday? Nothing.
But, it's a good thing we have our Starlink unlimited internet! At least we can do more travel planning!
We keep the remote sending unit inside our fridge to monitor the temperature.
2.7C is 37F.
39.3C is 103F.
Our 12 volt electric fridge is able to keep up with these high temperatures, but it runs pretty much nonstop to do so. Still, we are very impressed with it.
So, we did some more research on what we want to do this summer. We've pretty much got everything planned up until July 7th. It's from July 7th until August 19th that we are still free.
Speaking of temperatures, we want to be somewhere comfortable, hopefully with highs of under 25C. It could be that we simply remain in Northern England - Scotland area.
And that's one of the choices. There are a lot of long distance walks we can do, including the Wainwrights coast to coast walk, a 182-mile (293 km) walking trail that crosses northern England.
Walking across England?
It usually takes two weeks to complete.
The other option we're looking at is Serbia. We had planned on going to Serbia last July, when instead we ended up back in Canada earlier than expected. Flights to Serbia are relatively inexpensive, and there are several multi day hiking trips available similar to the one we did in Albania/Kosovo/Montenegro last June. And of course they are much cheaper than the Wainwrights trail in England.
We are undecided. What do you think? Coast to coast in England, or the mountains of Serbia?
The end of another day in Mexico.
We are moving locations today to place with a swimming pool!

And in Canada...
Record low deal on the Garmin Forerunner GPS Music Smartwatch.
I know less than zero about Serbia, but I loooove the idea of walking across England! Most of my ancestors hail from there (and Scotland), so perhaps that's why it sounds so appealing. I'm sure whichever option you choose will be of interest to your readers!
ReplyDeleteWe are comparing prices between Serbia and England/Scotland and Serbia is winning out. The hikes/walks in England/Scotland would be lovely but the money they want is crazy and that doesn't include any lunches or dinners so it is pretty hard for us to justify it. Serbia is better but still more than our Albanian hike that we did for 11 days last year. We are going to look at other countries in that area as well but we think we might just jump on a hike or two in Serbia unless we find something that is quite a bit better.
DeleteI vote for Serbia.
ReplyDeleteI think your vote may just win!
DeleteDo the walk across England. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAs much as we would love to do one of the hikes in England or Scotland, we can't justify the cost, plus that doesn't inclued any lunches and dinners. :-(
DeleteWalking across England sounds interesting but my guess is Serbia is much less expensive. Just enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour guess would be spot on! Serbia is considerably cheaper. The hikes we have been looking at in both England and Scotland are crazy expensive and they don't even include lunches and dinners/most dinners so that would be an additional cost to us and we are finding that hard to justify.
DeleteLove the idea of walking across England (I’m originally from England) but July/August is school holidays and accommodation costs will be sky high and possibly hard to find. I’ve noticed when planning trips back home that places get booked up way in advance. I know you are excellent at research and probably have discovered this but just saying. Whatever you’d decide it will be fun.
ReplyDeleteIt would be lovely to do some of the long distance hikes in England/Scotland but you are correct, the prices are crazy high. We would actually book it through a company that specializes in these kinds of hike, so they would book all the accommodation and they probably get some kind of discount for doing that which would most likely be way better than what we would ever receive if we booked it ourselves but most of those packages don't include your meals either other than breakfast.
DeleteSerbia is definitely at the top of the list to visit though but we are looking at a couple of other countries too. With the heat we are having at the moment, it looks like we will have time to do lots of research on this because it is too hot to do much else.
Sounds a fun summer. Just saying that in England and Scotland July/August is school holiday time and places will be busy and accommodation costs sky high at that time. I know you research well and have probably discovered this all ready, and finding places to stay on the route may be heard now, I’ve noticed things get booked up way in advance. The English are planners. The shoulder season is a better time to travel to England and Scotland. Whatever you decide I’m sure it will be a fun adventure.
ReplyDeleteYes, we had already thought of that. We wouldn't be booking the accommodation ourselves, not for a hike/walk like this. There are companies that do this, you pay for it but they would know what places to book and where. Anyways, we are convinced that this is not the route that we will take, as you said prices are crazy expensive and that doesn't even include lunches or dinners. Serbia is looking better and better and it is also somewhere new to us.
DeleteWe will have the time to do the research for this over the next few days so I am sure that we will come up with a fun plan real soon.
