Fun afternoon at Micos Waterfalls

The Huasteca Potosina region is all about the waterfalls.

We tried to visit some of them towards the end of our last Mexico RV Caravan tour in March of 2020, but then Covid hit and we were never able to.

So one of the things we had planned during this trip was to explore the region. We wanted to get to Micos Waterfalls prior to Friday because the 11th is the start of Semana Santa (Easter week), and it's the busiest time of the year at just about anywhere in Mexico that has access to water!

This is a funny picture. There is nothing on the roof of the car in front of us.
We are following a big truck loaded with sugar cane!

Mural showing a bird cave and a waterfall.

Another mural.

We like taking the back roads of Mexico!

We arrived to a huge, nearly empty, parking lot. I had read that RV's can stay overnight in the parking lot for free, so that's what we planned to do.

While we were sitting there, a pickup truck drove up and parked right beside us. I mean, the parking lot is virtually empty... we don't get it. Anyhow, the people got out, and we were surprised to hear them speaking perfect English. I leaned out the window and said "that's an odd language to hear around these parts".

We often go days without hearing any English.

They were a family from Nebraska down here visiting the father's family in Ciudad Valles.

We stayed with Igor until after lunch, and then paid the 100 pesos ($6.80 CAD, $4.90 USD) per person entrance fee. Life jackets are mandatory, and they are included in the entrance fee.

Lots of people playing in the water.

We put our lifejackets on and swam out to these rocks.

The water looks inviting, but it was almost too cold for my liking.

You can climb up here and jump in like this girl did!

Or dive in like the other two!

Looks like he's heading straight for that big rock!

Then we swam over to these rocks.

The photos are a little cloudy looking through the waterproof phone bag.

Big waterfall!

I took a video for you...

Ruth.

Me!

We got out of the water, and sat for a while and spoke with the family from Nebraska. They have been down here quite a few times, so they gave us some tips for other waterfalls in the area. There are so many!

Pics are nicer with the phone out of the bag!

We had a fun afternoon. I haven't been in the water this much in years!

Temperature had been just right the last couple of days. Highs around 32C (88F), with zero humidity. Lows around 15C (60F). It's quite comfortable compared to the 40C+ temperatures a week ago!
