It's busy here now!

When we arrived at this little spot by the river over a week ago, we figured it would be a nice quiet spot to spend the busy Semana Santa week. Most days, we have pretty much been the only ones here.

That all changed on Thursday!

We could see preparation activities going on early Thursday morning, as the owners here were busy bringing in chairs and tables and marking parking lines in the grass.

And sure enough, the people began arriving!

They've been really good though. Just big family get togethers involving spending a lot of time by the river and having BBQ's and picnics. We think the owners are really good at making sure the noise settles down by 11pm or so.

We go down and sit by the river to watch everyone having fun. And we're the only gringos around for miles, so some people curiously come over and talk to us, and even bring us food and drink!

We had already had lunch on Thursday, when I guy came and brought us two glasses of jamaica and a plate of food. We would have felt bad saying no, so we took it. Then, we found out the tacos were made with flour tortillas, so Ruth can't eat them.

Needless to say, I didn't need any dinner that night!
I was stuffed!

Then Friday morning, a bus load showed up!

We decided to walk into the village for lunch yesterday. There was a "comida casera" (home cooking) place on google maps that got great reviews, so we headed there. But first, we checked out another camping spot.

How about this beautiful spot by the river?

It actually would have been fantastic, although not so easily accessible. Lots of low hanging branches that would have to be trimmed  to get Igor in there. And, we couldn't find anybody to talk to to see if we could park there to begin with.

And, we had already extended our stay where we are. Even with the people, it's totally fine. I'm just ready for a change of scenery.

We found the comida casera place, and it was open, and we were the only ones there although a single man came in for a meal while we were eating. Really friendly family, and it's just a little cafe set up in their backyard. A young lady served us, and she spoke a little bit of English. Her aunt is the one who does the cooking.

Our table in the backyard.

We each had a plate of flautas.

They were really good, and a big plate and Ruth ended up taking some of hers home. Along with two big glasses of iced jamaica, the bill was 200 pesos ($14 CAD, $10 USD) for the two of us including tip. We might go back again on Sunday!

Harvesting sugar cane by hand.
Yikes, what a job in this heat.

There is a sketchy suspension bridge that we have to cross to get into the village.
I took a video for you...

For the first time in ages, it's actually overcast today and there's even a 40% chance of rain tomorrow. I guess we'll see!
