And we actually managed to get pretty close to that! It was the loss of Ruth's phone that put us over.
We spent a total of $2,296 CAD ($1,606 USD) for the month. Here's how it all broke down...
Fuel: Igor's tank was empty at the beginning of the month, and is ending the month half full. We spent a total of $438 CAD on fuel.
Toll Roads: We don't use the toll road (cuota) system in Mexico very often because it's too expensive. During the month of March, we only did one very small section... for $2.70 CAD!
Propane: We did not spend any money on propane during the month.
Groceries: We spent $277 CAD on groceries. Of course we also ate out a fair amount. See next category!
Meals out: We feel like we ate out a lot. But we still only spent $246 CAD in this category. And that's for the two of us! We love eating out in Mexico.
So, we spent a total of $523 CAD ($366 USD) on eating for the whole month. And we ate a lot of good food, and often had it served to us! Mexico is more expensive than it was ten years ago, but it's still very reasonable compared to anywhere north of here.
Alcohol: Slightly higher than budget, at $147 CAD.
Miscellaneous: A total of $415 CAD. The major items were a replacement phone for Ruth at $118, our Starlink internet service at $123, and a new pair of walking shoes for Ruth at $85. The balance is laundry, taxis, cellular, and a haircut.
Entertainment: We typically allow $100 CAD in this category, but rarely use it all. This time, we spent $77 on a variety of museums, hot springs, and miradors.
Overnight: Considering we did a long weekend in a Mexico City hotel, and we stayed in a variety of campgrounds, we still only spent $459 CAD on accommodation. Not bad.
Motorhome: Igor was good to us in March, and didn't cost us any extra money on repair or maintenance. So the only cost expensed here is the monthly averaged out cost of $98 CAD for his annual registration and insurance, which was paid for months ago, but we include it as an average so that our monthly expenses look for realistic.
Travel: Our five hour bus rides from San Miguel de Allende to Mexico City and return cost us a total of $135 CAD.
So, not a bad month.
Our budget for the month of April is the lowest it's been for a long time. Hopefully there are no extras that come up along the way. We plan to spend only $1,783 CAD ($1,247 USD) for the month of April.

Igor and boondocking really pay off not to mention better overnights.
ReplyDeleteIn most cases this is true but we have found some nice places to "camp" that haven't been super expensive either. We really love having both options available to us.
