We had slept well in the cooler weather up in the mountains near the big hole in the ground. It had been at about 3,500', and we were headed back down to 500'.
That extra bit of altitude reduces the temperatures by four to five degrees C, so it had been much more comfortable up there.
The main road down from the mountain.
Driving through the town of Aquismon.
Scenery along the way.
We arrived at the Palma Sola Club event salon and restaurant, and the restaurant was quite busy. We decided to go in for lunch!
We shared a plate of estrujadas, and a couple of bocoles (similar to gorditas).
Estrujadas Huastecas are a typical dish from the Huasteca region, especially in Veracruz, which is characterized by being a thick tortilla made of corn dough, cooked and then crumbled, and served with lard and accompanied by meat, egg and/or beans.

It now costs 250 pesos ($17.75 CAD, $12.75 USD) to spend the night here.
But it's safe, relatively level, and they have a good restaurant!
But, it's hot again. 35C (95F) and humid. I am so done with the heat. Thankfully, we are headed back into the mountains tonight, and we'll be at higher elevations until we leave for Spain a week from Monday. Even at Valle de Bravo, the forecast is for a comfortable 27C (81F).
