Today is our last day!

"Last day of what...?" you might ask.

Well, it's the last day of the oppressive heat wave that we've been enduring. Once again, the high today is supposed to go over 40C (104F). But tomorrow...?

They are calling for a high of 21C (70F) tomorrow. I bet the locals will have their winter coats on!

I can't wait. It reminds me of the two weeks we spent in Hua Hin, Thailand when it was baking hot. I just don't enjoy this kind of heat at all, and if Ruth hadn't wanted to see this area so badly, I would have headed somewhere cooler.

But, we've been surviving.

Yesterday morning, we walked the 3 kms into town to pick up a few things.

Cool mural in behind the Tamasopo sign.

Interesting entranceway!

Of course we were baking hot, so we deserved a popsicle. There is a lime popsicle that we both really like that they sell at the OXXO stores for 19 pesos ($1.30 CAD, $0.93 USD) each, and they are so tasty and refreshing. So we sat in the plaza in the shade and tried to eat them before they melted!

This is sugar cane area!

Back at Igor, we had some lunch and then hopped in the river for a swim. Ruth took her phone in our waterproof bag in order to get a few photos. Her cheap phone doesn't take the greatest photos... some are alright, but they are very inconsistent and we had to delete quite a few.

You can see Igor parked on the shoreline.

Me, with a big tree.

Waterfall in the distance.

Shore on the other side.

This is a funny picture because I am actually on the side of a small waterfall before the water goes over. But it looks like I am on the other side. Weird!

The water is so refreshing.

To avoid heating up Igor any more than necessary, we had a big salad for lunch, and then walked to a street food place for dinner. The village of Aguabuena is only about 1.5 kms away. Most places are only open for lunch, but we did find one where we had some enchiladas.

There are a few ducks who wander by our parking spot every now and again.

The Aguabuena sign.

We're going to try to walk up the river to some more waterfalls this morning.

  1. Enjoy the cooler weather! We've been in the 80s (F) here in NC the past few days with humidity to boot (and no pool!), but a cold front is coming through tomorrow night, and next week will be much cooler. Looking forward to that. I find I tolerate hot weather less and less with each passing year.

    1. We certainly will and it has already started! We woke up this morning and it is already cooler and it isn't supposed to get much hotter than we are right now at about 25C (77F). At least throughout our heatwave, we didn't have the humidity. Humidity is a killer. We are glad that you will also be getting cooler weather again. Your summers must be a killer!

  2. The heat of summer in Mexico. Great pics no matter the camera.

    1. And this is exactly why we aren't wanting to hang out in Mexico over the summer months!
Thanks Chris! I think part of the reason that the pictures aren't quite as good, is that the camera phone is in one of those clear waterproof pouches so the pictures will never be quite as clear as they would without the pouch.
