We were feeling a little grungy!

We know that it starts getting warm by 10am, so we set off at just after 8:30am for the 6.5 km (4 mile) one way walk to the Cascada El Aguacate (Avocado Waterfall).

We knew that we could have simply walked on the road... but we were looking for more of a hiking route than just walking alongside the road.

And for the first part of it, we actually did really well!

We ended up on a farmers path.

A nice view looking back at where we came from.

Then we walked through the sugar can fields.

Pigs!

Another pig.

There was hardly any wind, and it felt more humid than it had been the past few days. Essentially, we were starting to regret the fact that we might have to walk all the way back to Igor as well, and it would be in the middle of the day by then.

We came across a nice shady spot by this stream.

After a 15 minute break in the shade, it was time to carry on.

We got to the entrance of the Cascada El Aguacate, and there was hardly anybody around. Of course it was still pretty early. we paid our 80 pesos ($5.60 CAD, $4.05 USD) per person entrance fee, and the guy said to follow him. He led us to the top of this spiral staircase...

Looking down the spiral staircase.

I took a video for you from the top of the stairs right to the base of the waterfall.
It's the entire six minutes.

We sat at the bottom and relaxed in the shade for a half an hour.

A few young people came down and went swimming.

My angel.

The route back up.

Back up at the top, it had actually become quite busy. A bus load had shown up, and quite a few cars as well.

They have a small restaurant.

And a few murals. It's all very nicely done.

A bit of a view from the top.

Another mural.

But then it came time to go back. We figured we might be able to wave a vehicle down who might give us a lift, but there weren't very many vehicles. We ended up walking the whole way back. It actually wasn't too bad. A breeze had picked up, and the sun was behind some clouds most of the way.

We stopped in at that same little backyard restaurant for lunch. It was just as good the second time.

This (Monday) morning, we made a little change of plans. We had been camped out beside the river for ten nights. With very basic bathroom facilities, and very basic cold water shower. We were feeling a little grungy! We were going to need to go back into the city for some cash and supplies before heading on to the next waterfall and our long drive back through the mountains to Valle de Bravo for the end of the month.

So we decided we needed a treat... a hotel room with a hot shower and cool air conditioning! I found a hotel with a decent enough parking lot for Igor, and it's right in the center of Ciudad Valles. So we drove over here this morning, and are set up in a room for the night. Oh, and we can get laundry done! We'll do our stocking up Tuesday morning, and then head to the fantastic Tamul Waterfall!
